Keynote SpeakerLewis E. Jacobson, MD, FACS
After graduating from the University of Cape Town Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Jacobson completed his General Surgery Residency in Detroit, Michigan, and fellowships in both Surgical Critical Care and Trauma at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Jacobson joined the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1991. He spent 18 years as a trauma surgeon at the IU/Wishard Level I Trauma Center prior to becoming Medical Director of the St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital Trauma Program as they prepare for verification as a Trauma Center.
Dr. Jacobson serves as an instructor for Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) courses as well as Regional Faculty and instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course.
In addition to Trauma, Dr. Jacobson has a special interest in liver surgery, gastrointestinal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease.

Program Directors LOUIS M. PROFETA, MD, FACEP
Dr. Profeta received a BS in Biology and a MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, Center of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Profeta is a Fellow and Diplomat of the American College of Emergency Physicians as well as staff physician at four area hospitals in Indianapolis. He is past president and co-founder of ERASE: Emergency Room Advice Safety and Education, a non-profit agency focusing on public safety.
