Dr. Daniel Mark, Professor of Medicine and clinical cardiologist, directs the Outcomes Research Group, a 70-member multidisciplinary team of investigators and researchers that perform groundbreaking outcomes research studies and clinical trials at Duke University. These have included a 3,000-patient study of psychosocial prognostic factors in coronary disease, a 4,000-patient, multi-dimensional technology assessment of PCI, and a 3,000-patient economic and quality of life substudy in the GUSTO (Global Utilization of Streptokinase and TPA for Occluded coronary arteries) megatrial, as well as economic and/or quality of life substudies of ESSENCE (Efficacy and Safety of Subcutaneous Enoxaparin in Non-Q-wave Coronary Events), EPISTENT (Evaluation of Platelet IIb/IIIa Inhibitor for Stenting), PURSUIT (Platelet Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa in Unstable Angina: Receptor Suppression Using Integrilin Therapy), and SCD-HeFT (Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure), among many others. Dr. Mark is Co-Director of the Cardiac Care Unit at Duke University Medical Center and Director of an NRSA (National Research Service Award) training grant for clinical researchers. He is also Editor of the American Heart Journal.
Dr. Mark, a renowned expert on outcomes, quality-of-life and health economics research, has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He is a co-author of the ACC/AHA Guideline on Exercise Testing and creator of the Duke Treadmill Score.
